    acer chromebook estimated delivery

After learning that the Acer Chromebook would begin shipping "this month", I decided to order one yesterday. Amazon canceled my original Acer Chromebook pre-order, I'm assuming because it was officially delayed. Tonight when I logged into Amazon to check on an unrelated order, I was surprised to see an update to the status of my Acer Chromebook order. As depicted in the image above, my current estimated delivery date is July 26, 2011 - August 10, 2011. Hopefully my AC700 will ship sooner. In the meantime, I'll be able to get better acquainted with my Samsung Series 5 Chromebook.

Did you order the Acer Chromebook? Do you know your estimated delivery date? Let us know in the Chromebook Forum.

Acer AC700 Chromebook gets Official. Available "this month?"

Acer Chromebook Available and Shipping this Month

Acer has made the release of its Chromebook official. The Acer AC700 Chromebook Wifi-only model will start shipping "this month". Considering this news is coming out today, June 27th, that would mean the Acer will ship in the next couple of days. If the Acer Chromebook actually ships in July, this would corroborate the "mid-July" shipping time frame that is currently displayed on the Acer Chromebook product page at Amazon.com.

If you want the 3G versions of the Acer, it's scheduled to become available, "this summer". Considering we are already in the "summer" season , your guess is as good as ours as to when the 3G model will be available.

Acer finally has their Chromebook up on their website. Interestingly enough, when you attempt to download an image from the Acer AC700 Chromebook image gallery, the image file names contain "cromia" in them. If you remember, Amazon briefly listed the Acer as the "Acer Cromia AC761 Chromebook". At least now we know the name changes weren't on Amazon.

Are you going to order the Acer AC700 Chromebook Wifi version? Are you going to wait for the 3G version to be released? Chat about it in the Acer Chromebook Forum.

    Google Happy with Chromebook Sales

Information Week is reporting that Google is happy with Chromebook sales so far. While Google has yet to publish official sales numbers, according to Information Week, Google insists that "sales look good and there's corporate interest." A Google spokesperson said the following in an email:

"We've been very pleased with the response to the Chromebooks subscription model since we launched... We officially opened for business two days ago (i.e., June 15th) and there are businesses and schools signing order forms as we speak."
Considering that only one of the four Samsung models were available at launch and none of the Acer Chromebooks were available, one might have thought that initial sales would be sluggish. Do you have any thoughts on how many Chromebooks were sold at launch? Join the discussion in the Chromebook Forum.

    Google Docs

One of the main criticisms of Chromebooks is the need to be online to use access applications and data. It was previously reported that Chromebooks would ship with offline versions of Google Docs but that did not occur. However, an update on offline versions of Google Docs was provide by Google Docs product manager, Jeff Harris, on a thread at Reddit. When asked when offline versions of Google Docs would be available, Harris responded,

You're going to see offline start to roll out later this summer. We used to have offline with Google Gears, but it became pretty clear that plugins weren't the right approach. We've been reimplementing offline using HTML5 standards like AppCache, File API, and IndexDB.

We're some of the first webapps that are really putting those standards to the test, so it's taken a while to iron out the kinks.
Let us hope to see an official roll out date announced soon.

    Acer Chromebook Delayed

On the day when Google Chromebooks were scheduled to begin shipping, we find out that one of the two Chromebooks manufacturers will missed the launch party.

JR Raphael of Computer World has confirmed that the Acer Chromia Chromebook has been delayed. This is possibly linked to a Reuters report today stating that Acer plans to slash tablet and notebook shipments in order to clear their current inventory levels.

Ericom Software annouced today the availability of its new remote access client, AccessNow for VMware View. This RDP Client was developed to run in an HMTL5 compatible browser, thus the software can be used on a variety of platforms. Another great benefit is that no installation is required on the client computer in order for the software to run. Best of all, AccessNow software is compatible with Chromebooks! In fact, the City of Orlando has been beta testing Chromebooks using AccessNow for the past three months and plan to roll out a combined Chromebook, AccessNow solution to its city employees! Hopefully we will see more news of government agencies, businesses, and educational institutions embracing Google Chromebook leasing programs.
